Projections
Making
projections of the development of both the Dutch economy and the world
economy is one of CPB's core activities.
The table Extended main economic indicators summarizes the most recent
forecasts. If you want to receive an email alert on releases of our short-term forecasts (four times a year), please send an email to

Short-term forecasts
Each quarter of the year, CPB publishes short-term forecasts of the Dutch economy
and the world economy. These forecasts always involve the present year and the next.
Extensive analyses are presented twice a year: in March/April we publish the Central
Economic Plan (CEP), and on the third Tuesday of September (the start of the budgetary year)
the Macro Economic Outlook (MEV) is published, together with the government budget.
In the meantime, in June and December, CPB actualises its forecasts. All
short-term forecasts are published in the CPB Newsletter, accompanied by a short explanation.

Medium-term outlooks
Periodically, CPB publishes a macro economic outlook of the Dutch economy for
the next Cabinet period. This medium-term outlook (MLT) is the basis for the
analysis of the election platforms and the formation of the new Cabinet. An
MLT looks four or five years ahead. We sketch two scenarios-one cautious and one optimistic.

Long-term scenarios
Long-term scenarios (LT) present strongly different, but plausible and internally
consistent panoramic views of the Dutch economy in the next 20 to 40 years - and
sometimes even further away. These scenarios attempt to contribute to the policymaking
process in the Netherlands and to the discussion about strategic choices for the long term.
Four new scenarios for the Dutch economy were published in 'Vier vergezichten op Nederland'.
These scenarios are based on the scenarios of the European economy in 'Four Futures of Europe',
published in october 2003.
