Do parents work more when children start school? Evidence from the Netherlands
PublicationWhen children start school, parents save time and/or money. In this paper, we empirically examine the impact of these changes to the family's budget constraint on parents' working hours. Labor supply is theoretically expected to increase for parents who used to spend time taking care of their children, but to decrease for fulltime working parents because of an income effect: child care expenses drop. →
A lost generation? The early career effects of graduating during a recession
PublicationWe estimate the effect of graduating during a recession on the early careers of high educated graduates in the Netherlands between 1996 and 2012. Exploiting field-specific differences in un-employment rates, we find that graduates on average suffer a 2.3% lower wage in a typical recession in their first year. →
