CPB World Trade Monitor September 2018

The CPB World Trade Monitor shows that the volume of world trade decreased 1.1% in September, having increased 0.2% in August (unchanged from initial estimate), and growth in 2018Q3 was 1.4% (0.0% in 2018Q2).

Developments in global international trade and industrial production September 2018:

  • World trade volume decreased 1.1% month-on-month (+0.2% in August, unchanged from initial estimate) and growth was 1.4% in 2018Q3 (0.0% in 2018Q2).
  • World trade momentum was 1.4% (non-annualised; 1.5% in August, unchanged from initial estimate).
  • World industrial production decreased 0.2% month-on-month (+0.5% in August, initial estimate 0.4%) and increased 0.4% in 2018Q3 (0.5% in 2018Q2).
  • World industrial production momentum was 0.4% (non-annualised; 0.3% in August, unchanged from initial estimate).

In September 2016 (starting with the July 2016 monitor) the WTM base year has been moved from 2005 to 2010. Clarification of the procedure and its outcomes is given in the downloadable appendix (CPB Memo 'Change of base year WTM').

The release of the next monthly CPB World Trade Monitor is scheduled tentatively for 24 December 2018, 15:00 hours.
