World Trade Monitor July 2024

World Merchandise trade decreased with 0.3% in July 2024 compared to the previous month, following an increase of 0.7% in June. This is evident from the monthly CPB World Trade Monitor. On the import side, we see an increase for the United Kingdom (-4.3%), Latin America (-2.8%), China (-2.6%). Japan (+1.4%), the eurozone (+1.5%) and the United States (+2.2%) showed an increase. On the export side the United Kingdom (-11.5%) and China (-5.9%) showed a notable decline. However, the exports of Japan (+1.4%), other advanced Asia (+2.1%), Latin America (+4.0%) and the eurozone (+0.9%) increased.

Developments in global international trade and industrial production July 2024:

  • World trade volume decreased 0.3% month-on-month (growth was 0.7% in June, unchanged from initial estimate).
  • World trade momentum was 0.5% (non-annualised; 1.0% in June, unchanged from initial estimate).
  • World industrial production increased 0.0% month-on-month (having increased 0.0% in June, initial estimate -0.1%).
  • World industrial production momentum was 0.5% (non-annualised; 0.6% in June, initial estimate 0.5%).

The next release of the CPB World Trade Monitor is scheduled for 25 October 2024, 12:00 hours.

The monthly CPB World Trade Monitor is an instrument with which CPB monitors the development of world trade and is published on behalf of the European Commission.
