World Trade Monitor January 2022

World trade volume did not increase (0.0%) in January 2022 compared to December, when trade growth was still 1.2%. Emerging economies show declining growth in both imports and exports (-2.7% and -1.5%), especially in emerging Asia and China. Euro area trade increased with 0.9% for imports and 1.2% for exports. The figures for the United Kingdom are distorted by a change in the method of data collection. Global production rose 1.8% in January compared to December. In December this was 1.4%.

Developments in global international trade and industrial production January 2022

  • World trade volume increased 0.0% month-on-month (growth was 1.2% in December, initial estimate 1.1%).
  • World trade momentum was 3.3% (non-annualised; 2.7% in December, initial estimate 2.5%).
  • World industrial production increased 1.8% month-on-month (having increased 1.4% in December, initial estimate 1.2%).
  • World industrial production momentum was 3.3% (non-annualised; 1.4% in December, unchanged from initial estimate).

The next release of the CPB World Trade Monitor is scheduled for Monday 25 April 2022, 12:00 hours.
