Abstract subject: Patent data are used for research in a variety of fields: environment, multinationals, intellectual property rights, labor markets, indicators of economic activity, science and innovation policy, international trade, impact of the financial crisis, etc. Since a couple of months a unique database with micro-data on patents has become available at CPB, which opens up a lot of new research opportunities. This Policy seminar gives an overview of the database and discusses examples of applications that can be useful for policymakers in The Hague and Brussels.
