Abstract subject
Using a model consisting of three sectors that differ in their capital intensity, this paper considers the labor market effects of technological progress from a sectoral perspective. The model predicts employment to flow to sectors with high or low capital intensities, at the expense of sectors in the middle of the capital intensity distribution; and Baumol's cost disease. These predictions are tested for 16 developed countries for the period 1970-2007.
